Amelia and Umbria region

The town of Amelia is located on a rocky hilly ridge between the fertile valleys of the Tiber and Nera Rivers. In addition to agriculture, its economy is tied to small and medium industrial activities that are above all specialised in the food sector. The histoy of Amelia is as old as legend is. Cato dated the foundation of Amelia to 1134 BC but recent archaeology suggests it is a good deal older. Today Amelia is a dynamic and modern town, which is conscient of the enormous value of its artistic and archeological wealth. To see: the Church of San Pancrazio, the Church of San Francesco and the Dome, which, although modified during baroque age, date the first half of XI century, as still testified by the bell tower. Finally the church of Madonna delle Cinque Fonti, where San Francesco from Assisi rested.

In the nearby: Lake Piediluco by a picturesque town whose name means "at the foot of the montain". The lake is so irregular in shape that it could be an Alpine lake. It is very charming, and surrounded by wooded hills.

But all the Umbria region is a large stages with towns and villages like Gubbio, Spoleto, Todi, Città di Castello, Foligno, Narni, Orvieto, Assisi, Perugia, Spello, Trevi, Cascia e Norcia, just to name the most famous. Full of art and culture, full of architectural and natural patrimony. There are three kinds of itineraries to choose from to become familiar with unpolluted places and treasures, monuments and findings that go back centuries and epochs, always with an eye for fun and intelligent tourism.

The great events that are famous the world over, starting with Umbria Jazz in its three versions: the winter edition in Orvieto, the Easter edition in Terni dedicated to gospel and soul music, and the summer classic in Perugia, held in July, which hosts the top stars of the current music scene. And then there’s the Spoleto Festival, the TodiArteFestivaland the ancient and prestigious Sagra Musicale Umbra (a festival inspired by sacred music), not to mention the Segni Barocchi festival staged in Foligno. Theatre and music are intense activities here: each city has its own theatre season, whereas the productions staged by the Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria have won fame and success everywhere. Last but not least are the historic and folklore commemorations: each city has its own and the most famous are the Quintana in Foligno, the Gaite in Bevagna, the Palio dei Terzieri in Città della Pieve and the Balestra in Gubbio. And at Christmas and Easter, there is also a host of ceremonies and sacred representations.

I the area of handicraft and particularly of Italian food, Umbria produces Italian wines of excellent quality not only thanks to a natural predisposition of its lands but also thanks to the handicraft it has in the cultivation of vineyards and wine harvest acquired along the times by its producers. Among the best Italian red wines we surely find: the Rosso of Torgiano, the Rosso of Montefalco and the Rosso of the Colli Amerino. Moreover, we should mention the Sagrantino of Montefalco that is without any doubt a protagonist of the not only Italian but worldwide gastronomic and wine scene. Despite they are less famous, the Umbrian white wines are also excellent; we should mention: the Grechetto, the Orvieto Classico and the Bianco of the Colli Amerini and of the Colli del Trasimeno.

Ceramics and potterys in Umbria
The handicraft of ceramics in Umbria has antique roots testified by the discovering of works of great value dating back to the pre-roman era. The big treasure represented by the knowledge, the techniques of handicraft and the experience associated to a taste and a style developed along the centuries make of the Umbrian ceramics and potterys true and proper masterpieces in this area. Moreover, the common vocation of the region has matured symbols, use of colors and geometric forms of the decorations that are different from an area to another, so that the productions of Deruta, Gubbio, Orvieto, like also the productions of Gualdo Tadino and Assisi maintain their precise identity, impossible to confound
